About the project

Mapping communities facing challenges in accessing clean water. By identifying and documenting areas with limited or no access to safe drinking water, the project aimed to raise awareness of water access disparities, inform policy decisions, and advocate for solutions to ensure clean water as a fundamental human right for all communities.

Monitoring and Measuring water quality in Gjakova / Kosovo and Kukes / Albania

Periodic monitoring and measurement of water quality in the Llukac River in Gjakova (Kosovo) and the wastewater discharged into Lake Fireza in Kukës (Albania). The project aimed to assess the environmental impact of water pollution in both areas, providing valuable data to improve water management practices and promote cleaner, healthier ecosystems in the cross-border region.

Promoting Universal Access to Clean Water

The project aimed to improve water resource management and empower marginalized communities to access clean water as a fundamental human right. It involved monitoring the implementation of the National Water Resources Strategy and producing five Policy Briefs to strengthen national and local policies on water management. The project also monitored water quality across four river basins in Kosovo, publishing reports to ensure safe and clean water usage. Additionally, it tracked government actions and progress in climate change and environmental sectors, based on the European Commission's Progress Report, advocating stronger commitments to environmental protection and water governance. Furthermore, the project established 22 Local Water Councils, building the capacities of their members to advocate for their communities’ right to safe and clean water.

River Drini Day

During 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 in cooperation with partner organizations from Albania, marked the International Drini River Day. The aim of the activities was to raise awareness and educate young people, national and local cross-border authorities, as well as to encourage cooperation in protection from pollution and erosion, preservation of diversity and development of forms of monitoring of the Drini River basin, which is part of the natural heritage of Kosovo and Albania.
